I want to quickly talk about finding food peace when it comes to festive season food buying and food prep.
I don’t know about you, but drool worthy gourmet platters are filling my social media feeds at the moment. Also holiday desserts. And this got me wondering whether seeing such incredible imagery places unnecessary pressure on us to replicate this kind of thing over the festive season? And then as a flow on effect, does this adversely impact on our ability to truly find peace with food if we’re stressing over food prep to make sure it’s worthy of a social media post? Unless food styling for social media is your thing, which is totally ok. But if it’s not your thing, that is ok too!
Well for me, it’s not really my jam, so I’ve decided that I’m going to try to keep these holidays as fun and carefree as possible by keeping food prep simple.
That means:
- I won’t spend a week’s pay at an artisanal deli for a platter (seasonal fruit & veg can be much more cost effective!)
- I won’t slave away in the kitchen to make the perfect pav (instead, here’s looking at you deconstructed mango Weiss bowls!)
- I won’t spend more time styling food than eating it
So spending less time in the kitchen trying dismally to create food art, means more time with loved ones eating, drinking and being merry this festive season.
